PERRY TWP. – Richard Leone is checking another item off his professional wish list.
He’s served as a middle school principal, director of secondary education and athletic director. Now he is going to take on the role of high school principal.
During a special session on Tuesday, Perry Local Schools hired Leone as the high school’s top administrator.
With his family by his side, Leone told the board he was “humbled and honored” to be able to serve the district.
“My family is everything to me and the one thing I like to do everywhere I go is to make my new workplace family as well,” he said. “Having those key relationships are so important. I’ve heard great things about the community and the leadership team and I am excited to get to work here.”
Leone appreciates the opportunity to being a position to work “on the ground” with staff and students.
The board approved a three-year contract for Richard Leone and 15 extended days outside of his contract.
Superintendent Scott Beatty said Leone wants to start earlier and begin building relationships with the staff.
“This search for a new principal was an important one,” he said.
They received more than 25 applicants, similar to the last search, but Beatty said they had higher quality candidates from central office employees to a person with a doctorate in quantum physics.
