High school sports are back.
The first day of games for the 2021 fall sports season begins on Monday.
This past year’s jumbled mess that was the 2020-21 high school sports season featured canceled seasons, some schools or teams sitting out of athletics and plenty of shortened seasons. Many sports were played in non-traditional months, like wrestling in the summer and football in May, as well as shortened seasons and conference-only contests.
But like 2019, fall sports include girls’ golf, volleyball, girls’ tennis, boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ soccer and football.
Girls’ golf has the shortest season, with the state tournament Oct. 25-26.
Volleyball, girls’ tennis and cross country each hold their state championship events on Nov. 6. Boys’ soccer will hold its state matches Nov. 19-20.
Scrimmages for football began this week, and Week 1 games will start on Friday, Aug. 20. There will be 11 weeks
